International Moon Day: Launching
India’s Lunar Mission
nternational Moon Day, a
United Nations designated
Iinternational day, is observed
yearly on July 20 to celebrate
anniversary of the first landing by
humans on the Moon as part of the
Apollo 11 lunar mission. Apollo 11
landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.
Nearly 30 schools and 200 students
from Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy
and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts
participated in an event conducted
at Jeedimetla, NRSC, Balanagar in
connection with the International
Moon Day. Students of classes 8, 9
and 10 participated in the event.
Training Education and Outreach
Group (TEOG) Director Sri G.Srini-
vas Rao welcomed the students and
dignitaries from the State. SCERT
official, DSO Medchal and T-SAT
producer also participated in the cel-
ebrations. The students were shown
videos of missions to the moon and
more emphasis was given to ISRO’s
missions like Chandrayaan-1 and
Chandrayaan-2. The launching of
